as most know i'm building up my truck. well currently i have 2 sets of components in my truck. one set in the doors one set in some kicks.
well to keep up with the subs i need more. i want to put another set in the middle of the truck. i have attached a small grid to try and show what i mean. its a very poor mock up but since my wife is not here to do the art for me i had to fend for myself lol. in the middle of my truck i have a small center hump, on this hump i want to build a pod that would have other set of 6 1/2inch mid and 1 inch tweets in it. it would have one on each side. one for the pasenger and one for the driver. this would put speaker sets on both sides of each seat. does anyone see a problem with doing this??
I get what your trying to do, but i am afraid you will run into some serious phasing issues. I have seen it way to many times. Someone adds in a second or third components set, and it kills their mid bass, and totaly destroys the imaging of the sound stage.
I would keep it more simple and do a three way set up, or a two way with an 8 inch added for mid bass. If you still need more, a single mid / tweet combo conected as a center channel speaker. IMO its better to go simple and add in a couple of 8s alowing the mids to play higher, than it is to try running numerous component sets, and keep from having phasing issues.
I don't understand why you would totally destroy the imaging. If those components can't keep up, then get better components. Two pairs of decent components should be able to keep up with any sub.
He might be suffering from some phasing issues with the curent set up. If he is getting some cancelation, its very possiable it won't (making it seem like he needs more speakers).
I will say, a nice single set of components, or a set with an 8 added in for mid bass can keep up with about any NORMAL sub set up. Heck all I have is a single 6.5 componet set biamped on a set of jl 300/2s, and it has NO problam keeping up with a 12W7 with a 1000/1 on it. So a nice component set with an 8 added in for mid bass should be able to keep up with anything.
Maybe. Remember he all ready has 4 different path lengths in his mid bass alone. Adding 2 more would triple his chance of cancellation. Even with his current set up, there has to be some cancellation going on. He might have reduced some of it by playing with his speakers absolute phase, but that’s not something most people know to do. AND it doesn't always work. Especially when your talking about 6 mid range speakers all playing the same freqs, and all at different path lengths.
The theres the sound stage. Yeah he could run that set up as a center channel, but the center channel needs to be focused. Thats why I suggested a single source. If he sets up both sides it will widen the center of his sound stage, and totally demolish the outer boundaries.
