Ported vs. Sealed

Good to go. I'm going to seal up my TS10L enclosure and with the 2ohm load I should see a double in wattage to ~600.

I guess my original question should have been: with 600w on a Kicker 10'' L7, should a 1.5-2cf volume sealed enclosure sound good?

She should sound VERY good :) I'm thinking....

Keep in mind, going sealed will cut your out put by 3db over ported. If you double the power, and seal the box you won't see any gain.

2 cubes sealed doesn't look to bad but Its still a funky looking peak. BUT, its not as funky looking as the graph of a 10L7 ported. Personally I would like to see a smoother roll off, but I don't see it hapening with those subs.

Wait I got it smoother, .(577 max flat delay responce) but your talking about a 10 cubic foot box. 2 cubic foot puts you a little below a .707 (max flat amplitude responce). Its not the best, but it doesn't look to bad.

should sound good, you can play around with the box volume by adding blocks off wood to make the internal volume smaller, or by adding poly fill to make it sound bigger....

I like the use of digi-tools to see the roll-off of my sub w/ sealed enclosure. :) . Wouldn't my x-over have more of an effect, unless anyone can determine?

My enclosure has polyfill in it. Seems like they would know, someone like Kicker that has done subs for 20+ years adding polyfil?

I liked it. I'm thinking seal it up, and go! :) I like that sealed response!

No because the box controls one side of the roll off, and the x - over controls the other.

and yes I did run the graphs with and without a x-over added in.

Appreciated Jeremy, I need all the information I can get. Thank you. Just thought that the x-over/internal volume controlled the freq of a sealed...

Think of it this way. The box acts like a spring, so as the speaker goes lower in freq the box limits excursion. (every time you drop an octave excursion increases by 4), and results in a loss of dbs as freq lowers.

On the other side, your x over ruduces your output as the octaves get higher. Normally by 12 or 24 db per octave.

Jeremy - I have a lp 24db lowpass x-over and a 2cf sealed enclosure. Should be perfect for the 10L7 sealed, right?

I know the 24db x-over rolls off fast....

I think it's important for anyone looking at the effects of a box on frequency response to download WinISD and play with it for a little bit.

I'll look into W/isd. I'm a sys engineer and don't put a lot of interest into computer gen sound progs.....

My "dumb" ear sounds best to me
