Orion 6002 for JL 12w6??

Post by michifan12 »

Hey guys - I need a new amp for my JL 12W6 and I was wondering if the Orion 6002 is good a match...I can get a brand new one for about $195 shipped...

What concerns me is that the lowest impedence is 4 ohms in bridged mode and the 12W6 is a 3 ohm sub....

Will that be a problem?

Thanks in advance!!

In a two channel amp, NEVER go lower than the rated bridged ohms. This will cause the amp to overheat and be very unstable. You will probably be better off with a monoblock amp or buy another w6 and search for a 1 ohm amp.

I only say the above to be safe. It's never bad to be too careful, especially when spending hundreds of dollars.

Sweet thanks for the info...so basically this means either:

1) But a 2 channel amp that can do less than 4 ohms in bridged mode
2) Buy a mono amp

I'm trying to find a good deal on a Phoenix Gold Xenon X600.1. I realize its too powerful but I wanna keep room to upgrade my subs later - I can tone the amp down right so it doesn't push the sub over its limits?

Oh yea another question...

If the an amp is 300x1 @ 4 ohms and 600x1 @ 2 ohms, then it would be correct to say that its 450x1 @ 3 ohms - right?

I'm assuming its split right down the middle?

If you can get that phoenix gold amp and it is more power, you can use it as long as you set your gains properly and dont push the subs to the point of distortion. and yes, in theory an amp rated at 600x1 at 2 ohms would be 450 at 3 ohms. And keep in mind that if the sub is a dual 3 ohm voice coil then once you wire both of the voice coils together, then it would be either 1.5 ohms or 6 ohms. So you might wanna look for an amp rated at 1 ohm.
