heads up on installing a flip screen cd player

Post by swimmerdude »

My brother just bought a Pioneer AVIC-N2, a flip screen, navigation, dvd, cd player. I just want a little heads up on how hard is this thing going to be to put because of all the extra stuff you have to install. I have put in regular radios before so im good with doing that part but i dont know about the navigation stuff. And if you guys have any suggestions about when installing i'm it.

not too much harder i think maybe 2 other wires. you have to hook up a ground to the parking brake and maybe another wire.

Quite a lot more work, actually. You have to mount the navigation unit as close to the front of the car as possible, and the arrow on it HAS to be facing the front of the car PERFECTLY, or it won't work good.

yeah, i read about the little unit and having it face forward but i just got done reading the installation book and it said for the box to be in the trunk?? Since my brother has an explorer, i was thinking about putting it under the back seats. And it says for the gps antenna to be higher up in the car, but its an SUV, where would be some options to put it besides outside of the car??

The antenna really needs to be outside. Also you did not mention what year Explorer. Newer models have a VSS wire behind the radio (gray/black) older models need to access that wire at the computer pin 58 or 68 same color.
The back up wire I usually never hook up. I figure you will never drive that far in reverse.

That BOX can be mounted anywhere as long as the arrow is facing front. If there is room above or below the glove box put it there. East access should you have to get to the unit for any reason.

My moto is plan it out then install

AVIC needs to know how fast your driving, VSS is the vehicle speed sensor wire. You will need to locate that wire at the computer.
