Opinion on new project

Long time lurker here and finally posting up. I have been into car audio since the late 1980's have gone through several systems and vehicles. My first system in 1990 was an alpine head unit, Redline OD 15"s, Orion 2150 on subs, Punch 150 on 6 RF punch 5 1/4's and 6 RF tweeters. All in a BMW 325.

I am now reworking the back of my 2002 Chrysler 300M. I currently have installed (2) RF 15" subs in a sealed 6 cu. ft. enclosure , each with it's own RF 200ix. The subs are 2 ohm DVC and the amp is running 4ohm mono. The fronts are Kicker Resolution R6 seperates powered by a RF 100ix. Memphis trunk mount eq.

Here's the new install that is being started today. The rear deck is being remade into a fiberglass enclosure to house (2) 12" Diamond Audio D6's. The subs will be mounted in the rear deck with approximately 3cu.ft. of air space.
Subs will be powered by the same 2 RF 200ix amps running 4 ohm mono.
The deck will be covered in suede to match the leather interior.

Any thoughts or opinions on the new set up? I am curious about the sq as well as the "slam factor." I want sq, but on occasion, I do want to be able to have the windows down and pound a good bass cd. Is there an SPL range that I can reasonably expect?

after installin this woofer in a couple of cars but only the 10s i was really suprised although i think your enclosure is a little large for them i still think they will be fine. as for your spl question i never thought of these as an spl woofer but alot of guys in meca are running them. the install i last did with a diamond auido d6 10" on an xtant 121m did a 130 flat in a .75cf box tuned to 34hz. if i were you i would think of taking that size down to about 2-2.5 but thats just me.

o yea and the sq on these woofers is incredible.

Just to clarify, each sub will be getting about 1.5 cu.ft. The spec sheet looked great for that internal volume.

o yea and if you for some reason dont want the diamonds sell them to me ill be happy to take them off your hands. i think dave (audiobass10) was tellin me he new a guy who did a 151 with a single diamond d6 in a trunk so they can get loud

That box will give the most low end extention. The subs should reach xmax with about 600watts. In a smaller baox they will require more power.

I think you should be well into the 140's provided the car's acoustics are not a problem.

The enclosure will be sealed. The subs mounted in the rear deck, firing up at the rear window. I would think it will be similar to a sub enclosure in the back of a hatchback.

The car is very solid with virtually no rattles at all. Lots of Dynamat in the trunk. I will probably need to get the roof done after this install.

I am hoping to get into the mid 140's. Nothing crazy, but very respectable i think.

The amp rack is flush mounted behind the back seat. It's completely trimmed out and looks great when the seat is down. It makes for an awesome stealth system as nothing but the head unit is visible (now with the exception of the 12's in the rear deck, but not visible through the limo tint).

wow sounds like one hell of a system get some pics as soon as you can. it sounds to me like you shouldnt have a problem getting into the 140s with that let meknow how it goes!

Well, there is a change of plans. Turns out that the cutout for the 12" will just barely get into some structural bracing. Since that is not an option, I have decided to go with (2) 10" Diamond Audio D9's instead. The enclosure will still be fiberglass and sealed at 3 cu.ft. as mentioned in my first post. Each sub will be seeing around 600 watts. The specs look like I'll get the best combination of sq and sql with that amount of internal volume.

I have yet to hear a 10" D9. I am curious how it will compare to the 12" D6. The spec sheet shows the D9 2-3 db louder at all listed frequencies, but at 800 watts. The owner of the shop tells me that the 10" D9 will be louder than the 12" and play nearly as low, espcially since they will be hitting off the huge rear glass window of the 300M.

Any thoughts ???

Excellent sub as well... very close performance to a JLw7. Like or hate it... the w7 is pretty much a standard to measure all others against... consider that the D9 is cheaper than the w7 & 'marginally' every bit as good, the D9 is an excellent value if you are looking for insane XMAX & tonal accuracy at those SPL levels...
