help...something isn't working..

my friend just called me today and said his stereo wasnt working right.. when he would mess with the bass knob on it, it would hit good for a second and then hardly at all... and he said it would happen just going down the road.. well by the time i met him in town to take a look.. the sub wasn't playing at all..

i've un-hooked the bass knob.. checked the ground/power wires... the green light is on, on the amp.... i even pulled the sub out of the box and made sure the wire nuts were tight.. and they were... fuse is not blown.... neither the sub or the amp were warm...

here's what i don't get.. the sub doesn't have output.. but it kinda shakes/vibrates.. not enough to move the sub visably but if you touch it you can feel it.. and it doesn't feel like it's moving to a song.. it just feels like one constant note or something... but can't hear it and barely feel it... any help?

amp- planet audio tt2250d
batcap
pioneer cd player..

i'm going to unhook the dd later when he comes back and try a different speaker on it and see if it's the amp or sub... but i was just wanting to see if anyone knew the signs of what is wrong with this..

blown amp.
swap it with another amp and I bet the system starts working.

phuck.. that's what i was thinking but too afraid to say... the amp was bought used.. but luckliy it had the 5 year warranty... but now it's a PITA to have to send it off and crap..

You could have the negative wire going to the positive wire on the sub. If you were to reverse the wires, it might work. I had a similar problem when I installed an amp and assumed the wires were wired correctly inside the box. The sub would vibrate, but it wouldn't hit like it should. Once I switched the wires around it worked like should. It's easy to check, or you could just try hooking up different speakers to the amp.

No, even if the wires are reversed, the subwoofer will still play music.

yeah if you have two subs and one is out of phase you'd get that problem if both subs share air space, but his sounds more like a fried amplifier.

at least to me..

yeah.. it's most likely the amp.. pulled the sub out and it ohm'd out good... tried another speaker on the amp.. once again no output... the only thing that gets me is the green like still comes on.. it's not in protect.. shouldn't it be if it's fried??

Depends on how it went out...

Its not always 100% fool proof in this hobby.

Try another amp out...

I had a very similar problem with my Kicker DX700. The amp internals looked perfect to the eye, but something went screwy with it. I'm willing to bet if you swap out the amps it will be ok. I still to this day have no idea what went wrong with my amp. I switched to a Profile AP1000M (cheapy) and it worked flawlessly. I suppose it could be something electrical, but more than likely you just need a new amp. It sucks, but it happens.
