Speakers that can play all the vocals in evanescence without distorting.

Post by Mithrandir »

My junky ass sonys cannot play all of the vocal notes in evanescence songs, they distort whenever amy is singin really loud which she does a lot. Anyone have any ideas? I need something to fit 3 1/2s

3 1/2s are a pretty crappy size, you could get a comp set and through the tweeters up in there or buy there, or get some good 3.5s and have them amped and use them just for highs but its not going to sound very good.

Evanescence uses a very wide frequency range. That takes a lot of speaker and a lot of amp power to do :)

3.5's... I think that is entirely too small for using them without separate midbass and lower midrange. 5&1/4" I think is large enough for complete midrange and minimal upper midbass.

3 1/2 is to small to be dynamic. Upgrade to at least 5 1/4's one way or another...

not at the volumes you play in the car there, chief.
You want a good set of 5.25" or 6.5" separates in kickpods. You also want an amplifier to drive them.
This will stop any distortion you're eharing. Be sure to use a high-pass filter on the components as well, set to about 120Hz with a 12dB slope.

this will fix your problems. 3.5" speakers suck balls in a car.
especially in most factory locations, which equate to the top of the dashboard, or low in the dash aimed at your knees.

just pointing out that in a car, the speakers have to actually play a lot louder to be perceived as being equally as loud as the ones on your PC.. so they'll crap out sooner in a car.
stick the PC speakers in the car and see how they do if ya want to test that :)

you want a good front stage. especially when vocal clarity and volume are both a concern. that's as simply as I can put it.

my DLS iridiums are 3" mids and won't distort (vocals) even if i tried to make them. my opinion, its your "junky ass sonys." :help:
also, consider the signal you are sending them. if it's clipped, it will distort. if it is not crossed correctly, it will distort.

The cleanest midrange performance I've heard from a cone driver would be the SEAS Excel drivers (and Lotus for car application). It just takes a hella notch filter to tame the 10db resonant peak :surprised of the magnesium cone.
