updates....

got me some more subs, to good a deal to pass up really. Rockford Fosgate
P3S12D4's.

Worked on the box, test fitted the subs, and stretched the grill cloth. Grill Cloth looks a bit rough, had a little trouble getting it right, and it is still not just right but it will work.

On to the pix:

The grill cloth isnt quite the way I wanted it. I guess it will do though.

Tell me what you guys think. All opinions are welcome...as long as they are good and agree with what I think....LOL Seriously, I do want and need some input.

Is there really a need to glass it? or can you just use wood?

nope no real need to, just wanted to, to get the practice. Yeah I can use wood but. I really struggled with that decision, to use wood or glass. And I have pretty much decided on glass. I know it is a lot bigger process and much more time consuming, but I really just wanted to do it for the practice.

Tim

BTW thanks for looking

Let us know how you like the p3's. I heard the a couple 10" P2's in a F150 around 4 years ago and they really sounded nice and decently loud for what it was, granted it was right behind the seats. I would have to imagine the P3's are more impressive, so i'm sure you'll be pleased man.

curious as to why you didn't do a flush mount ring.

also, that ring looks a little small, you want to make it so you'll have something for screws to bite into.

I'd make your mounting ring like 2" larger than the OD of the sub, or a little more, then make a second ring, that is the same outside diameter of the mounting ring, but the inside diameter of that 2nd ring fits around the sub, then you glue the rings together, and stretch your material.

A couple of other things,

Don't use grill cloth if you don't need to, its too thin. In this case, felt or fleece would work great.

Also, after you have your fiberglass mold set up, take the back of the box off and do glass work from the inside. You'll be able to make the fiberglass bond to the wood a lot better. And you'll only need a layer of thinned filler on the outside, and it'll take less sanding.

Already had the rings made up, and was to lazy to redo them. LOL

The wooden ring is the correct size, the RF trim ring is like 13". So the trim ring is actually bigger than the sub ring. There is plenty for the screws to bite into you just cant see it for the trim ring.

Dont really like using fleece, I have had much better luck in the past with grill cloth, it wets out real well and is stretchy enough to do what I want it too.

Yeah if I do end up going with glass I will try to do some of it from the inside. I may just take off the grill cloth and go with all wood, most likely I wont though.

Thanks for looking and all the input.
