What exactly is it's purpose?

I've used it once in the game but I couldn't tell if it gave an advantage.

It is.

Because 1) It's cheaper in real life.

And 2) Drinking alcohol in real life raises my intent to a much higher level. While my standards are lowered considerably. So it creates a recipe for score!
