Hey Tim. I bought the amp, I couldn't help myself. I hope I made a good choice.

I have a set of Alpine SPX-17REF components in the front doors and I'd like to add a set of components that will fit in the rear doors. As the highs and mids are lacking at the moment. The amp I have now is a maximum of two channels at 75watts RMS@4ohm. So I needs me an upgrade in order to expand.

These are the components I have now.

As for the price, the place I just bought the amp at is Visions Electronics here in town. I just used the Alpine website as they post the most accurate specs for the amp.

ok I see. yeah then you got a good deal. I love that new style of the Alpines. I think you made a good choice. Those comps, should sound sweet.
Alpine amps are pretty decent they seem like they will last a while too.

You did alright.

Strange, I couldn't get to page two of this thread using the normal route. It would just bump back to the top of page one. I had to put the display in threaded mode for me to get to your post.

Anyway, thanks Tim. I'm forever second guessing myself so it's encouraging to read the positive feedback.

Now to look for some more components, lol.

Totally! I can't go too big, like a maximum of $300 for more components. I haven't made up my mind to stay with brands I know or venture with something new. Whatever the choice is will be going in the rear doors. I'm just looking for a little more sound that won't take away from what I already have up front.

Thanks man. The amp actually looks better in person than on any webpage. It looks like much more of a quality product in person. I hope it puts out more quality than I expect as well. That'd be great.

I really couldn't pass it up. Regular price in store up here is over $600. So getting it for $250 felt like I was getting away with a pricing mistake.

I had the same dilemma, go with whatcha know, or do something new.
I went the "go with whatcha know" for years, never was let down by it but I missed out on a lot of quality stuff.

So this time I decided to "do something new." If I hadn't I would have missed out on some good deals, and what I know will be quality, or the guys on here wouldn't back it up. :thumbsup

3 way, cough cough

Adding speakers in the back, can take away from the front stage. Especially if you plan on playing them full range.

By putting comps in the back your adding another set of path lengths to your ears. The more path lengths you are running, the more likely you will run into cancellation, and the more freqs that will be affected.

If you really want the front louder, and don't want to loose anything, change to a 3 way set up front, and spend some extra time on the install.

I just thought of something. Have you tuned your speakers for proper phasing as it sets, or did you just plug and play?

If you haven't you might look into it, before you spend any more money.

I've searched for three ways and anything (that I can find) with any quality characteristics are out of my price range.

I remember reading a post of yours Jeremy, about adding speakers in the rear and how it changes the quality of sound due to the path lengths. In my case, I just don't have anywhere else to put speakers. The comps I have up front at the moment already lack some sound quality due to placement. They sit a little low in the doors for my taste. So that clear pin drop sound suffers as the tweets point well away from the direction my head is at. I'm avoiding all cutting of panels as well, so that's out.

As for phasing the speakers, you got me there. I've only tinkered to the best of my abilities to get the best sound that I possibly can out of the system. With this new amp I think I'll be able to adjust the sound quality further. But basicly, it's plug and play.
