Alpine DVA 9861 is DVD player, but have no processing built in, so external processor is a must. It is not the fastest head unit on market, but it works just fine. It has also OPTIC output and AiNet output and processor control besides standard RCAs.

That's the one I've got, but I don't have an external processor. I think it sounds pretty good without one.

Point is in options that processor offers you. But it all depends on system - if it is "normal" system with only sw low pass and front hi-pass and passive xo than there is no need to buy proc, but if you plan to go 4-way, full active, than processor is necesary. And with such system you really need 701
