BTW Eclipse is worlds better quality wise and sq than the Kicker... especially the EA

these will be for some component speakers and a pair of midbass drivers. Kinda why I liked the Eclipse amps better, since their crossovers have a better range. The components are 70W RMS, and the midbass drivers are 120W rms, which is kinda why I wanted the power of the XA. Why would the EA particularly, and not the XA sound much better than the Kicker? Because of the amplifier type(AB), and the fact that it's an Eclipse?

I have never heard any problems with SQ on Eclipse and many people use them for sq applications. Kicker is a great amp dont get me wrong but they just cant touch eclipse as far as SQ goes... Usually Class A/B, while being less efficient and drawing more power, generate a cleaner amplification of power than a Class D. Although now adays Class D's are pretty close to what A/B's signal to noise ratios are .

Well, I'm in a dilly. The Kicker is used, but will sell for $40 less than the EA4100. It also provides the RMS power needed. Then again, I'm running all 4 speakers right now on 75W RMS, so I know that it should work. Also in the EA's favor is the fact that it's lower power than the XA or Kicker, meaning less stress on the electrical system.

edit: it appears the XA4000 is back on ebay for a similar price that I saw originally. But now that The EA is an option, i'm not sure what to do. The EA is also on ebay much cheaper than the XA, and for a final price that is about equal to the Kicker being sold here, only it's brand new from ebay. So, you think I'll be better off with the lower power EA?

The EA will probably draw just as much power as the Kicker if not more... Class A/B's are power hungry... i forgot what the conversion is but i know that they consume more power than a class D at the same rating.

If you are not going to be entering this car in a SQ competition and the Kicker is in great condition... get the Kicker Amp...

I just have a hard-on for Eclipse stuff - ;)

Well, so do I. The Kicker and the Eclipse are both AB. I was just looking at their fuse ratings. The Kicker has 2x40, while the EA has 2x30. I'm going to need a new alternator so the lower the overall draw, the better since it means I wont have to buy a super high output one. Still, fact remains, I've been powering 4 speakers with a 2 channel XA1000 which would in theory be giving 75W rms per channel. So, the EA4100 wouldn't really be a step down, it'd just be cleaner, and let me refine the crossovers better. A brand new EA4100, or a used Kicker ZX650.4...both sell for the same. I'm leaning towards the Eclipse..

I'll make it easy for you... Go with the Eclipse

If they are both class A/B then the Eclipse will draw less power. But still will give you some great sound out of those speakers... Remember RMS ratings dont have to be strictly followed...

That's pretty easy, thanks for holding my hand on this. I really hate having too many options.

IF you are still interested, the circuit city warehouse store in Milwaukee area has XA4000 for 201.96 - there were 2 left on Saturday when I stopped in there (they have been sitting there for a month or 2). Sales tax would be 5.6%.

Thanks a lot for checking. Thats almost the perfect price for me, but then I'd require a more expensive alternator. I already purchased an EA4000 which should arrive today. So, I wont be needing the XA, but really, thanks again.
