Help on Subwoofer

Post by manny1110 »

ok soo i need two 12" subs i used to have alpine type r's but blew them both soo i need something with a little more power handling. They will be run on a hifonics brutus 1600 rms. ive been looking at kicker cvx but any other suggestions would be great.

a hifonics brutus 1606d should not have blown up a pair of type r's your install is incorrect and you should fix that before buying and possibly blowing another set.

they were in a horrible prefab box soo im going to have to find someone to build a nice box made to specs. but everything was installed professionally soo thats the only thing that i could see blowing them.

box and incorrect amp settings (clipping) and or abuse of the volume/gain knob are the leading factors of sub failure.

^Agreed... The Type Rs should've taken the Brutus power all day long, and if they were professionally installed... Your so called professional was wrong to put them into a prefab to begin with, so I wouldn't be suprised if the setting are wrong as well.

if your problems fixed there are plenty of mid range subs around just pick what you like best from a respected brand. you cant go wrong. kicker hifonics crunch and many others.

yea i wasnt at all too happy with the install i mean it was clean but the he didnt re-adjust the H-U settings and left lots of wire residue in the car itself but, im glad i dont have to worry about that anymore. just need some new subs. i did like the sound of the type r's but i think they do run expensive compared to other subs. i got them for 100 bucks each but i dont think id pay regular price for them.

Heck you could go with another set of Type Rs (IMO better than the Type Rs are better than the CVXs, but that's just me). Put in the proper enclosure this time you might be suprised at how much better they are than what you think.

It's been said thousands of times here... "A cheap sub in the right enclosure can sound 100 times better than a superior sub in the wrong box."
