lol that's hilarious. I bet it worked though.

I have a cap on my truck, so I don't have to worry about people looking in my back window. The glove box wouldn't work because I wouldn't be able to swap CDs. It's just too far away to be doing while driving.
Does anyone know of any kind of motorized thing I could attach to my HU if I installed it under the dash, so that when I start the truck it would drop down? It'd be totally removed from sight and it'd be pretty bad ass having it drop down when I turn the truck on! :)

tint is my plan for my truck... i want extra dark on the back, and the rear windows, and the front/door windows will be around 20%.

and an alarm. deck relocation isn't a bad idea... except for wiring. another idea would be if you went the car pc route... you could mount the screen in the head rest or something... with a slot load cd drive and a few usb ports or something in the dash..

or with the car pc... you could even mold the screen into the dash.. just make it hard to see or something

I should probably take my out my HU, put the OEM back in, and mount it right under the lip of the dash to the right of my steering wheel.
I wouldn't do anything crazy - your stereo is there to enjoy, not to have to become a contortionist to operate it. :D

Also, think like a thief.
If you were a thief, you'd peek into an unfamiliar car to see if there might be clues that there was something inside.
You probably wouldn't walk up to the car 100% predisposed to believe that there WAS something inside - and when you didn't find it, you wouldn't scour every inch of the car interior looking to see if it was somewhere you didn't expect it. ]I could take a blanket and stick it over the box and amp rack in the back, but I'm not sure if that would defeat the purpose of prevention. The box is clearly visible from the outside looking in, but you can only see the top amp slightly on the amp rack. When I learn fiber glassing, I'll be able to make the amps sit lower and reduce that problem. I should also be able to minimize the sub problem as well, but it'll still be visible from the outside.
In regards to the alarm, I'm going to keep looking at the Omega, Scytek and other alarms. I would like that remote start with the manual trans bypass, but manual trans remote starts are illegal in my state.[/QUOTE]
Tint the back window extra dark.
Perfectly legal, as long as you don't do the side windows.
That's cheap and effective.

The key to an effective security system is to think like a thief. If you can think of a way to get something easily, so can the thief. Work on that area.

Around here thieves like to "work" in the dark. Well, light up the car as much as possible when the alarm goes off. Strobes, underbody lights, blinking headlights, taillights, and parking lights. Make you car light up brighter than a Christmas tree to make it noticeable.

Sirens. Always have an alarm that has backup battery capability. Place a piezo or 2, 3, 4 in the interior (well hidden). Kind of hard to think when you have those things blaring in your ears.

Put things like your amps under thick plexiglass. Basically build an amp rack but have the amps secured with security bolts under the plexiglass.

The more work a thief has to do, the less likely things will be taken. The equipment could be ruined, really isn't anything to do about that if they get past your security system.

Never, ever, use the red or orange LED that comes with most alarms. change them out to a different color. I used to have warns every night, before I changed out the LED. I put 2 very bright blue ones facing out the windshield (one on each A pillar). Haven't had so much as a beep from the alarm since.

Scytek does look like good alarms. I thought about getting one just for the camera capability. Still might..

I should probably take my out my HU, put the OEM back in, and mount it right under the lip of the dash to the right of my steering wheel. It'd be just as easy to remove it from the car then when I park it so that it looks like I'm only using an OEM HU. If anyone has any other ideas for mounting where I could still easily insert CDs, feel free to suggest!

Get a paintball gun... that way you can easily identify the criminal :p
