Yeah basically its just more wiring options. I believe you still can order them how you want them also. I ordered mine and had them made as dual 4 ohm. I dont know if they will still offer this for the new model though? Sinister is a dealer for them he might be able to tell ya.

all that does is give you more wiring options so you can properly match an amp to the sub

It is all dependedn on your amp, and how many subs you plan on running.

In a single sub set up you would have these options.

dual 2 ohm XXX 1 ohm or 4 ohm

Quad 2 ohm XXX .50 ohm, 2 ohm, or 8 ohm (I am sure ther are more, but you get the idea)

dual 1 ohm XXX .50 ohm or 2 ohm

If you have an amp that puts out 1000 watts RMS at 2 ohm bridged and you want to give the XXX 1000 watts RMS you would want the Quad 2 or Dual 1 ohm versions.

If you have an amp that puts out 1000 watts rms at 4 ohms, and you still want to give the XXX a 1000 watts then the Dual 2 ohm would be the one you want.

If you are running 2 subs then you would add or divide the ohm ratings of your two subs to get the final ohm load. (depending on how you wire them)

Looking at the Resonant Engineering XXX Model subwoofer, I see there are 3 diff options for Ohms. Dual 2 Ohm, Quad 2 Ohm, and Dual 1 Ohm. I'm assuming the Quad 2/Dual 1 would cost a few bucks more.

The question is, how much of a difference would there be between the quad 2 and dual 2 in regards to getting enuf power to the sub? I don't quite understand. Wouldn't the Quad 4 Ohm be harder to power properly since there's more resistance? I vaguely remember doing some Parallel and Series stuff in Physics 11/12 but I didn't really pay attention in those classes so it's really limited!

Also, if a person got the Dual 1 Ohm would a 1000 watt RMS at 2 Ohms power it well enuf?
