Sorry my bad, read that backwards. Then yeah it should mean less gain and such with a higher voltage preout. Misread that post. :banghead

Thats what I thought actually... 4v Preouts on the Alpine shoulda meant less gain/bass boost needed? I dunno. I won't worry about it until something blows up on me.

if the alpine has more output voltage though, theoretically he should be better off.....unless i misunderstood

Line driver will boost your preout voltage from the 2V that you have now to say 5, 8, 9, etc. all depending on which type of driver you get.

Line driver?

by Chris from MI » Mon Jan 09, 2006 6:06 pm

Now you could pick up a line driver, that would put you back in the same ballpark and then some. :happy055:

I went to a local car audio shop. He says everythings hooked up fine and it sounds fine. He said it was cuz my Kenwood have 2v Preouts whereas the Alpine has 4v preouts.

Dilemna over. Woot woot.

A good shop should do that for free. Go to a few and see what they'll do for you.

Sigh... all that shit is Greek to me. I have no clue what I'm doing. I have no clue where to go from here. How much would u car audio installers charge if someone asked them to check all their wiring and connections and stuff? Cuz I'm getting the feeling I'm in over my head at this point.

JL's site and BCAE1 have everything you need to know about setting up an amplifier, how crossover curves work, etc.

for a sub, these are a good starting point:
input sensitivity: one-quarter turn up from minimum. no higher.
bass boost: off/zero level.
XO freq: 60-80Hz
XO Q or Slope: 18dB/octave
filter type: LPF (low-pass)

see how that works for starters.
