by MrSo0h0o » Wed Aug 24, 2005 3:31 pm

ok well i dont wanna get into it, but long story short, i ended up cutting the factory wiring and had to hard wire everything. it only took me an hour or so to run all the wires under my passenger seat and everything else, but what can ya do. only problem now is i dont get sound when playing a CD. dvd i get sound. asking the seller if he could give me any info. i didnt hook up one wire that was called digital output(i think it was audio, not sure) could that be the why there is no sound?

get the wiring color codes for a camaro from the12volt.com
luse that and the GM harness on your radio to label the wiring of the Eclipse unit so you know which Eclipse wire is what.
then go to Sears and spend $10 on a Toyota wiring adapter for the radio and a mounting kit/fit kit.
now wire the toyota harness to the labeled eclipse wires, stick the radio in the fit kit, and install it.

all done.

at what point should i change the wiring? also, i just pull the wires out of the harness to put in the other, correct?

kinda hard to see what you have with those pics but id say yes. if it powered the old hu then you could use it on the new one.

so the wiring harness is not brand specific? it is car specific?

i already have a harness from my other HU here:

could i use this one?

well the illumination and acc were wire together so that when your key is on the unit lights up. the parking brake and ground are wired together presumably so the unit will play while the car is driving. some have a safety featur that when wired correctly wont let the unit play while the car is driven. the easiest thing is just go get that wiring harness kit and it will tell you what wire in the kit will connect to what wire on the unit......batt, acc, etc........

this is the wiring coming out of the brain. it is crosslisted with the sticker on the unit. its a little weird because:

orange/white(illumination) and red(+B to acc)were wiring as one to create one red wire.

black(ground) and red/white(parking) is wired together but then there is an extra black wire a few inches long that loops. u might be able to spot it in the pictures. and then they are all wired together into one white wire(no listing for a white wire)

solid blue(antenna) turns into orange.

blue/white(amp control B+) turns into a solid blue wire.

at the end i have red, blue, yellow, black, double black and a blue/white just hanging there.

you dont need an eclipse wiring harness....the eclipse harness is coming out of the unit and then there is an adaptor that is crimped onto the eclipse harness to let the unit plug directly into your factory wiring. you can get these anywhere they sell stereos, best buy, circuit city, walmart, your friendly neighborhood car audio shop.....what you need to do is cut the two apart at the crimps and crimp on or solder on the one for your car....
