i talked to djdilliodon who I bought them from and he said its obviously not normal and to just send it in under warranty. So I emailed CDT today to get an RA#, this is my first time working with them as far as customer support goes, so hopefully it will turn out good!

Im thinking you are right Kiki, about the coil being damaged.

swap left and right woofers, then swap back and swap left and right XOs, then do the same with the tweeters.
you'll find the problem when you hear it on the right side instead of the left.

the coil is probably damaged on that midrange.

swap it out with what? the reason i'd like to try and pin down what is wrong without guess and check is because I dont want to have to keep getting the amp fixed. If I swapped the left channel's crossover for the rights, i'd then have to disconn. the left side and use the amps left channel (the one that isnt damaged), then if it was in fact the speaker and not the crossover, both channels of my amp would be damaged, as the speaker would be damaging the other channel.

yeah the speaker works, just as loud as the other one too. But what is happening is the front right output in my JL keeps going out, low ohm light is coming on. (JL 300/4) I had it repaired by my cousin and he said that it is probably something causing it, not the amp itself doing it. So he fixed it and I hooked it back up and it all ran great for about 30mins of playing time, then the tweeter started making weird noises, starting picking up noise and such. I stopped and looked at my amp and the low ohm light came on again (it lights as when theres a burnt out FET or faulty output and such too) so I know its the speaker causing it. My cousin said it could be the crossover too, but he looked at that and said it was fine. So I checked the woofer with a dmm and it read about 5.2. I dont know what the heck is wrong, is there a short in a wire somewhere and thats damaging the amp?

thats the story on it. In the 30minutes when it did work (the amp), the speaker played perfectly and very loud with no distorting.

Hay lotus check your leads. The fact it is reading high tells me you have an open, (bad sodder joint, loose wire, something like that) The reason I say check your leads without a load on them is to make sure it isn't your tester, or the wires you are using on it.

From my experiance when a speaker is blown the voice coil will show a short, making the resistance lower. I am not saying there might not be any damage inside the sub (again pointing out the open, bad sodder joint, loose wire, so on), but I don't think it is completly fried.

I assume something is wrong here. I have a 4ohm speaker reading about 5.2ohms. Does this mean the speaker is blown? damaged? or what?

thanks
