I know a guy at work who's totally convinced that the higher the ohms the speaker has the better it sounds. And I think he says its louder too but i try to change the subject by then.

I think that its mostly the low end brands that put the max watts in huge numbers on their stuff.

I like it that my 400 watt old ppi is louder and better sounding than their "1000 watt" pieces of junk.

Yep same guy fried his amp, I checked it one day for him and he had his gain CRANKED all the way up.

and couldn't understand why his amp only lasted a couple months, and his sub also went about the same time.

I sold him a punch 401s, for cheap like 75 bucks, he said it started cutting out on him, I had used it without issue for close to two years, and he bought the sony 1000 watt amp.

I know I have to get used to it, but it is so hard to get used to pure stupidity.

There is really a lot of info out there on car audio. It can be confusing. Heck, even some installers I've met don't know jack. I can think of plenty of times where I was at a car audio shop and the guy was confused by what I was saying.

I'm really surprised MORE people don't burn up amps and start fires in their trunks because of crappy wiring. Sometimes things work for people on blind luck alone.

Remember, get some DVCs - they are louder.

I didn't fully understand the difference until I found CAC.

That's marketing for ya, they put 1000 WATTS in really big letters and that's all people see.

Welcome to car audio bro. get used to it people always think they know better than you. trust me they still do it to me!

Why do people not listen.

Ok, I got this buddy at work, and I have explained to him in plain, easy to understand terms, that peak power is in no way related to continous or rms power.

But he goes out and buys a sony X-plod amp that is 1000 watts Peak.
I read on the box 185 x 2 @4 ohms.

And some subs (new Pioneer) that are 800 watts Peak, 150 watts rms apiece.

Why do people not listen when we tell them whats what?
