Well a little update.

Got the first brake light section done. I need to trim the board some more, to get it to align with the lens better. You can tell in the tail light mode, that they aren't lined up very well. So some seem darker then others

And here is brakes on

I think next I'll do the turn signal.
Then start on the wrap around section of the tail light.

Ya I remember that thread, but I wouldn't go about it that way.

The big reason would be because of moisture, with all those holes drilled into the lens, and the LEDs themselves being exposed to moisture. You're just setting yourself up for a failure. Plus as time goes on, those LEDs would start to discolor and not look to good being exposed to the elements.

I had to do some searching to find this, but I remember one similar over on TGO. The guy actually drilled holes into his lenses and inserted the LEDs, looks awesome.

Ya the grid lights are getting hard to find in good shape.
But, if you find some that are just scratched a little. Take some wet/dry 1000-2000 grit paper and sand them out. Then buff it out with that plastic X stuff. It really turns out good.

I did the reverse lights on the one pictured. Before I started, they were yellowish, and didn't look good at all. now they are shiny and and clear, look really nice now.

That looks great! Very much the way I've been wanting to do mine. Don't want to take apart my daily driver, so I need to find a set of grid tails like those (hard to find in good shape).

Plenty bright nothin... from the looks of it you could cut through pea soup fog with them puppies... Looks great though

Sure haven't had much time to work on this lately, but did get a little done today.

Got the board cut to fit the lens, and soldered in 2 rows of LEDs.'

I think I'm going to do this retro a little differently then the others. On my other ones, I've epoxied the board, into the reflector. So there is some gap between the lens and the LEDs. I tried today, and the light from the LEDs didn't look that great. So I tried moving the board, onto the lens and it looks much better! So I'm going to epoxy the board right onto the back of the Lens. Doing this also makes it easier for spacing the LEDs too.

Here are what the 2 rows of LEDs look like when placed against the lens.

My goal is to have 3 rows per section. I think it's going to be plenty bright :)

I was thinking of putting a row of white LEDs into those parking lights, but didn't have any here.

I've also thought about, when I put the projectors in, maybe making some angle eyes too.

LEDs are fun :)
