I would back out if possible.

In the future, if you are looking to buy a broken item and have it fixed its best to get a rough idea for repairs before buying.

Does the cone move in and out at all when you push on it? Or is it scraping at all? If it's not playing in the condition it's in now, sounds like it's going to be an extremely expensive adventure to get it working again.
