I upgraded a year ago because my 3000+ with 1 gig of ram and 500 gigs was too slow. I upgraded to 4800+ 2 gigs of ddr2 and 16x PCIe ATI 1900

wow you guys think you have an outdated comp?

AMD 1600+ here!!

and really, it's been a great computer all these years, still runs everything and really isn't slow at all.

Here's my suggestion. You will want to add Winderz XP to this if you aren't using your previous one.

-The Rundown-
AMD 4600+
2 gigs Corsair Ram
NForce 550 Biotech mobo
NVidia 7950gt video card
Seagate 320 gig SATA HDD
430 watt power supply
=
$623.96 + shipping

subtract $100 total for rebates.

*has combo option, select the one with the 320 gig Seagate (http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.a ... 6822148140)

The computer is being built for web design, and gaming. I play a lot of WoW and I am going to college for web development. Basically I want this setup to be badass, but I don't want to pay a fortune because like most of you have stated.. it will just be outdated soon. The original plan was to run two VC's, but I have to pick one first.

I think the system looks great, although I have two issues with it:
1.) Power supply. Get a name brand, decent one. I'm running an Antec currently and it has been serving me well. One I was just looking at is the Thermaltake PurePower which looks nice: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817153049

2.) If you're not going to use SLI, don't spend the extra money on the board with it. Just a waste of money and one more thing that can break on your mobo :)

I'm personally running a Zalman 9700 LED on my AMD Athlon64 2800+ and it runs awesome. My CPU hardly gets over room temp at idle (including Cool 'n Quiet which brings it down to 800mhz at idle)

3000 64x FTW!

I think I'm running a 2800 Athalon in my PC. I can't wait to build a new machine. I think Civ IV is killing it. lol

by CaptainPioneer » Tue Jun 19, 2007 10:08 am

my Athalon 3800 is soooo out dated but it still runs really fast plus im overclocking that sucker with some software that my brother gave me. so it runs well... mine is about 3-4 years old running well.. the problem is that you can replace HD, CD Drives, RAM, Fans and video/sound cards but where it really bites u in the ass is the damn Motherboards and CPU's... They are always modifying them... oh well... BTW New egg is where i buy everything when i really need it quick, plus their return policy is pretty good as well

by Robert Wollenberg » Tue Jun 19, 2007 9:09 am

yup. That's why I try not to overbuild. Why spend big bucks on something now that you're not going to use. If you're going to use it down the road, wait six months and save 50% on it.

In Jared's case, I'd be willing to be they're overbuilding. The first thing I'd do is probably get rid of the 5200+ chip and buy the smallest chip that will work on that board. 3500 or so, whatever, I'm not sure. Anyway, that will cut down a lot on the price. As for audio, I've always been plenty happy with the built in audio card. Video is another matter. Ram is important, but that can be done strategically as well. Anyway, we'll see what he's got to say.

Yeah we need more info.

"Airforceyooper" I too only buy from newegg. I have yet to have any draw backs with them. They are the best for computer parts. I too and still running well actually I just retired it, I had it running strong and it was quite, slooowwww..as well.....got it in 99 and retired it about a year ago. The thing that sucks about pcs is that the day you buy/build your pc is the day it became outdated. Theres always going to be greater and better stuff out there.
