If you don't have a level capability for your sub outs, you could set your component gain correctly, set your sub gain correctly, and then slowly lower the sub gain until it blends in with your front stage. Key thing there, I think, is the midbass integration. It really makes it feel like your sub is an extension of your front stage and not this booming speaker in the back of your car.
