Hey Brother, I have been considering this ever since I found out that you needed another kidney. When I read that you can't have anything with a "b" in it, I knew I couldn't donate. Like Jonathan, I too am B+, so I wouldn't be able to do this for you. I wish you the best and my prayers are for you to find the perfect donor. I am pulling for your 20yr kidney my friend, shoot, I am praying that the next kidney is the last one you will ever need. That it extends way past the normal lifespan of a donated kidney. Keep me informed of the progress. I will keep praying no matter what.

Joe

If you have a family history of kidney failure, or diabetes, you probably won't be able to donate an organ as a living donor, but if you want to try, you can always begin the workup and let the transplant team make the decision based on your history etc.

As far as how soon I need the kidney, as soon as possible. Dialysis is a royal pain in the ass, to put it mildly, and the longer I'm on dialysis, the more my body deteriorates from a lack of not having an actual kidney. Dialysis works, but nowhere near as well as an actual kidney does. It's not a perfect solution.

My dad has it and every year his condition worsens coupled with heart disease issues.

So I try to maintain my heath a bit, because I know its coming for me next...

This thread lingers on me as I cant imagine the issues at hand. It ranks up their with loosing your kid and how you would cope with it/handle it. It also is sad to realize in 8-15 years you will have to repeat this cycle.

Im not sure what the rules/regulations or whats illegal about it, but cant you like "buy" one from a living donor- if worst comes to worst?

Insurance companies should change up their deals with donors also. They should reimburse them for lost wages.

that sucks that stuff like this happens to all the nice people. im pretty sure im b- but id have to check and my family has had a problem with diabetes and out doctor said ill most likely have it when im older so i dont think i would be much help.

Sorry to hear this Sean. My aunt suffers from kidney problems and is on dialysis, my moms also has kidney problems although hers is still treatable with meds. They both have diabetes and thats the sole reason for their kidney problems, the both also have eye sight problems, both are almost completely blind.

I check to see what my blood type is and let you know in the next couple of days, if you dont hear from me pm me and remind me because I might of forgot (I suck at remembering things.)

I want to encourage everyone to become an organ donor. I've talked this over with my family and have it on my license, if something bad happens to me I want something good to come from it.. The gift of life is the best gift of all...

How quickly do you need one might I ask?

by GlassWolf » Sat Mar 31, 2007 6:23 pm

won't have any effect aside from the initial recovery time after donation.
you'd go on to live a completely normal life.

There's an NFL pro football player with a kidney transplant, just YFI
I think one of his teammates was the donor.

Unless you abused the shit out of yourself, you shouldn't need the other one.
(alcohol, drugs,etc)
none of thee above.

it shouldn't affect you, cause your only using one all the time, the other is a "just in case"
