in his original post it said he was looking for "a" 13w7.......hence my recommendation for a single 1000/1........as for the tranny there are enough kids hot rodding hondas these days that it wouldnt surprise me.....there is a local body shop that built an older celica with a 454 in it so..............

I guess I should have asked this question earlier. What are you looking for out of the system? Like Kiki said, the Brahma and XXX are very similar to the W7 and cost much less. Unless you're dead set on going with the W7's I would reconsider. If you're looking for a very loud driver, the SX would also be something to look at. They're great for an SPL or SQL geared system. Ascendant Audio's Atlas and Avalanche would also be something to consider. The Atlas's are a super efficient driver with great SQ and the ability to get loud. The Avalanche is more of a power hungry sub at a higher price than the Atlas, but can get LOUD while maintaining great SQ. you'd want one 1000/1 for a pair of 12W7s
you'd want a dedicated 1000/1 for each 13W7 if ya go that route.
you could also look at the RE XXX, or RE SX subs from [url]http://www.reaudio.com[/url] or an Adire Brahma from [url]http://www.adireaudio.com[/url]
all are cheaper than the W7 and on par or better for output and SQ.
you'll still want around 1Kw or better for a XXX, and at least 500-600wRMS for an SX or Brahma.

any of these are also going to mean a HO alternator and probably an isolated battery to handle the amplifier(s) to power these subs.
You could go with a single 12" or 15" and do just fine with a smaller car, and then you could stick to one amplifier to drive the sub, and look at a second amp for mids/highs

a pair of w3s will give you good thump, a single sub (w7 or XXX)can also give you good thump. I would not use JL for mids and highs. We all have our preference for highs. I prefer MB Quart, others reccomend diamond or rainbow audio.

So i wouldnt need to subs to get good quality thump...and what speakers do u reccomend go with all around jl audio?

If this were me, I would probably go with a single 13W7 run off a 1000/1 for daily driving. If I had the money, id purchase an additional 1000/1 and run it to the single W7 for comps. Spend lots of time on a good meter and keep modding the box until you find what *works*. It's usually better to keep a sub in its thermal power handling for daily driving, not to say it can't be done using much more. For SPL competitions, the extra power would never phase the sub.

and when we say hope you have cash, there is more than just buying a sub and amp and installing it. Im sure you're overlooking plenty of 'hidden' costs.


edit: im not sure why there is an argument going on over the power required. I never lashed out at him. All my post said was a 13w7 does not need more than 1000w, I didn't say two or three or four.

a jl 13w7 woofer requires 1000 watts for "optimum" performance and reliability. It can easily handle 2000 watts in a properly set up system. for 2 jl13w7s, he will need 2 1000 watt amps for optimum performance and reliability. If he uses less, he will not get very much output, which will lead to turning up the gain, which will lead to distortion, extra heat and eventually blowing the sub. 500 is the absolute minimum power for this sub. if you are going to pay 800 for a sub, you need to spend at least that, if not more on the amp. would you buy a lenco transmission and 4:11 gears and put it behind a geo metro 3 cylinder and go racin'? then why would put a smaller amp on a sub that can handle so much more? 1000 per sub at least.

Actually 71buickfreak has made many intelligent posts on this forum, so your lashing out at him was probably because you didn't understand his post. I believe he was saying that the 1000/1 would not be enough for 2 W7's and if that's the case, then I agree. A single 1000/1 would be ideal for a single W7, but there's really no point to run 2 of them with the single amp. They like power.
