joe atleast you have some sort of experience. i'm a college student looking for an IT job in a state whose biggest industry is tourism/hospitality.. no work experience, no references, i've got a better chance of owning my own walmart at this point, it seems.

although i'm not looking hard yet.

by OnYrMrk » Fri Feb 16, 2007 12:34 pm

you will do fine Zero...you have the experience...and that seems to work better than most everything else

I got an interview for another diesel mechanic job
m-f gig with every now and then saturdays...
20-25 dollars an hr...

Monday @ 11am....kinda nervous lol
So its possible, I haven't really started searching hard either

Its a little far (1-2hrs each way depending on traffic)
So we'll havta wait and see

Goodluck man, wish ya the best

im right here with you, ive been on unemployment for a month now. i went from makin 18 an hour working about 85 hours a week, to sitting online filling out applications and gettin 300 a week in unemployment.

i just got a call on a job and if a 19 year old who barely made it threw high school can find a job, then you definatly can with all those certs. and expereince.

good luck bud

well I am a certified A+....according to this drunk girl one time...

by OnYrMrk » Thu Feb 15, 2007 8:14 pm

well I am an MCSE, and it isn't worth the hassle.

I am also A+ and Net+ and Linux+ certified, and I don't put any of them on my applications unless the position specifies that they are looking for someone with those attributes.

by joeyc » Thu Feb 15, 2007 3:50 pm

I personally am certified in windows....or maybe I'm just certifiable....
Oh yeah, and I can type fast as well! lol

Cisco is a goodstart..but Security is where it is at. I would stay away from MCSE...you have to upgrade nearly every two years...and take 7 or so tests each time you upgrade.

Cisco router os's haven't changed much over the years. So I would go for CCNP at a bare minimum. CCIE after about 10 years of work as CCNP. A+ and Net + will only kick in a door..if you are using them for guaranteed employment...understand that the median income of someone with those two certs is about 20K/yr.

Security guys can nearly write their own check. That is where Iwould go if give the chance.

unless you're looking for a future CCNA/CCNP/A/Network+, probably not :P

im considering MCSE and Security certs too.
