with my tuning being at 30hz, you will retain SQ... it slams on rap, lol...

Hmm Scarrel, how's the SQ with your vented design? I saw videos of it on realms of excursion and it looks like it hits like a freakin beast. I listen to mainly Rap and Hiphop and was wondering if this box design was purely SPL or not, cuz I also want it to have decent SQ as well.

With that box design you will retain SQ, and since you listen to rap I'd go this route. Type-R's are some great sounding subs.

scarrell...im curious what type of music you listen to? mostly rap?....i have 2 1242's...at first i had put ports in an old box i had...i measured the actual ports to what the manuals said( i read on crutchfield that their was a misprint) used 3 or 4in pvc pipe that was just shy of a foot long into the box....they sounded real boomy with hardcore bass....but for hard rock that i listen to they sounded weak...so i covered the ports to test it and it was a good deal better for rock but a little weaker....i know everyones ears are different...sorry didnt mean to hijack

my amp's an oldschool Rockford Fosgate Punch 225.2 (It's underrated and puts a lil over 600 RMS bridged to 1 channel at 4 ohm). I haven't bought the type R yet but am planning to buy a DVC 2 ohm (SWR-1222D) for 109.99 shipped from etronics.

scarell's type-R pounds whenever I heard it. First hand, my ears hurt when the bass hit and my pant leg was moving. Go ported if you are doing a type-r

its more or less a proven fact that Type R's handle and sound better in a ported and tuned correctly enclosure.. i run a single 12" Type R in 3cf box tuned to 30hz, and i love it.. it gets real low and loud, i have 600rms to it and am in the 140db range. what kind of amp do you have? and the model number, and is your Type R a dual4ohm or dual2ohm?

here is my design for my sub, feel free to use it!:

I'm sure if it is what Alpine recomends a size it isn't too small.
