^This is the best advise you can get when shopping for speakers... after all you're the on that they have to impress. Some people like sharp high's with higher range mids while others like soft tones and lower mids or any range in between... so go check em out for yourself and find something that suits you best :thumbsup

The point of my previous posts was that headroom is a positive thing, as long as you're pro actively monitoring to make sure you're not destroying the speakers (or potentially the crossover). Read: not abusive
Look for a speaker that sounds good to your ears (ideally in car, although that'll be harder to find), not by what wattage they are rated to handle.

nah look for a speaker that can handle about 150 maybe even less. hell i had 200w on my bravox kevlars and they were rated for 80w's

ok, so as long as I get a speaker than can handle 200watts (max is 250) I should be in the clear?
or drop down even farther?

by Bwcad1 » Wed Nov 22, 2006 5:04 pm

first rule you will never see the max stated on an amp ;)

Aight, wealth of knowledge I'm gonna go to a few shops and see and try to compare the stats to CDT and Fusion stuff.
I've heard good things about both. I'm definately gonna check into Peerless (thank you again).

So according to ya'll if hypothetically I'm running 125watts to each cross over I should get a speaker than can handle more or less than max?

For example should I be looking at stuff that runs @200watts rms or 100watts rms? Sorry didn't think about the headroom and what not.

right, ive heard of people running amps at .5ohms that arent entirely stable at that ohm load, so they run really long speaker wire and some other things to make the load rise to around 1ohm and such..

Yea. The lesson you learn from this thread is that you should just go to a couple shops and listen to a few sets and see what you like. lol
Everyone has a different ear for what's good and not everyone's heard the same sets that everyone else has. Plus, you can jack up the volume on some shop's set before you jack up the volume on your own.

I know I just brought these up on a different thread... Fusion Power Plant components... you're too far away for smoker and myself to sell to, but maybe Sinister could hook you up with them (not sure if he can get Fusion or not).
But these are awesome and the retail price on the 6.5" components is $169.99 (and nobody sells at retail)
