I'd still like a reply to that PM, since it was in regards to your general attitude lately and not just this thread alone.

As for Eminant Domain laws, the government gives you what they consider fair market value for property they seize, but in reality they pay next to nothing to take the land, and your $250,000 home may fetch you $50,000 when they're done, which you can use to go buy a new house and cover eviction and relocation charges. It's a very chilling law. I can't name a single business that'd go under entirely because you can't smoke in a building, but I can think of too many to count that wouldn't last a day without a store front or property.
I also know a lot of people who'd never recover from the loss of their homes in such a manner as government seizure.

This is getting off topic, so I'll bring this to a close on that note.

Ya King County has been passing some really crappy Eminant Domain laws and Environmental Laws.

Basically what is happening is, if you own over 5 acres in King County you are not allowed to do ANYTHING to 65% of the land. You can't even cut down wild black berry bushes. So basically if you've owned your land for 10 years, and always planned on dividing it, or even just building a home for your parents on one part of it. You can't anymore!!

you basically just lost 65% of the value of your land, because who now would ever buy the land from you since they can't use all of it?

Now what is really crappy about these laws, King County is mostly dense cities like Seattle. Well they vote these laws in because it doesn't effect them at all. Just those hicks that live in rural king county who cares about them.

Eminant Domain laws are just as bad, the cities forces land owners into selling their land, and instead of using the land to build roads etc. They sell them to developers who build 100's of houses on it (more property tax dollars)

I hate King County and glad I don't live there, but I'm afraid it's just a matter of time until Pierce and the rest of the state sees how much $ they can make off of property owners by taxing them like crazy and then forcing them out of their land.

I'm surprised this topic is even still alive. I figured it would have died off after about 2 or 3 days. We had far more annoying laws trying to be passed here, like Eminant Domain laws allowing the government to take your home and property at will. I'd worry a lot more about having my home seized for no reason other than "the government wants your land" than I would be about if I can light up in a shopping mall or not.

i'm going to be honest, i didn't hink you'd take part int his little e-arguement/debate.. i figured it'd be closed after the first 2 or 3 days.

btw, don't we have the constitution to protects us from the government coming and taking our home/property at will? like hell if they'd take my home. i'd go out with a fight.

It's really the same kind of issue though if you look at it from the business owners point of view. If they take away his/her business then they have nothing.
I do agree... It's amazing this has gone this far and I'm very glad to see that it has never really gone past a civil debate... so for this I commend you all :happy055:

no....im done with this debate, i dont agree with the law, i smoke yet my house is a smoke free zone because i have 3 kids and my mom moved in with my wife and i last year and she babysits kids for extra money out of the house.....no one ever said smoking was good for you, its not and youd have to be an idiot to think otherwise. i just dont agree with the law that is all..........

Other than that I'm surpised that this hasnt gotten nastier than what it has, its nice to see we can have discussions like adults rather than bickering like children...

sad thing is I don't even know what were talking about anymore I just wanted to gain more IQ so I agreed anyways.

In one of the towns not too far from here. They have a smoking law for resteraunts that say either they have to have a smoking area seperated by walls and solid doors from the rest of the resteraunt and have seperate ventalation or it's no smoking... I don't think this is too unfair but it did cause most resteraunts to drop smoking all together just to avoid the remodeling costs... me personally I don't care much. I smoke but I do everything in my power to ensure my children a smoke free environment. I don't smoke in my cars when the kids are with me. I don't smoke in my house and if we are at a resteraunt say with my parents even though my dad may light up at the table I still step outside to smoke. I do this also year round. I don't care how cold, rainy, tornado infested it may be outside my children's health means more to me than that. Just my little bit... Not much but there you go. :P
