You are 100% correct. The media puts a spin on things, and has it's own influences.

But that doesn't make it "incorrect" to use the media as a source of information - to do that would be nothing if not ignorance.

There's a true, developed skill in filtering and interpreting what you hear from the media - just as you'd filter and interpret what you hear or read from anyone. If you are still in school, or college, you may find a time where you study either politics or organizational behavior... those topics are a great help, because it explains group motives... the "why would they say that?" that might drive the "wow - did you hear what they said!". That's really the stuff to filter OUT, because it's a matter of "Well, of course they said that." You can predict that stuff, it doesn't need to be stated. (it's easy to apply this technique to people in your personal life who are "known liars" as well - good practice - but doesn't need to be applied just to liars ]!" - than it is to just dismiss "the media" as some sort of conspiring collective that's just out to get you. :p

Conspiracy theory is fun, but not fun enough to become ignorant over. And conspiracy theory in it's worst form is when it itself is spread by people who lack an ability to interpret and "reality check" information - isn't it really the same thing, when you have people who hear some cool-sounding, shocking "conspiracy theory", and just believe it without question?

It goes both ways - but to believe "the media" is lying to you is to ignore a whole set of checks and balances, as well as displaying some real 'black vs. white' thinking... it's really shades of grey. It's always shades of grey. :thumbsup

^I've been saying that for years :thumbsup

Nope. Even trying to find the "facts" now is a dificult chore. Everything is polluted with bias. Everyone has an opinion. Thats all good and well, but keep it to yourself, or atleast out of print and the camera. IMO, America has to much to say, and is to immature for our freedoms. I like being free, but we are wasting it. Seriously, the news covers everything but what is important. How easily could corruption be unbed if the story itself did not sell well?

Don't even get me started on the media......They have waaaay to many rights as it is. I remember when they used to post news, not hear say, not insider information, just plain facts... do any of us even know the difference anymore?! :p

and yeah the senior thing was meant for comic value so laugh it up :)

The media is the reason for everything. Few, and I stress few people think for themselves. Look at Car audio for example, the general consumer only wants what the other has. Few take the time to research and form their own opinion, instead the allow others to do it for them, without realizing. Look at our news networks. They all have political affiliations, and report there stories with that bias in mind. Back to what jeremy said on page 1 about the nerve gas. We will never know the truth, but that is the downside to having free speach and press. Fortunately, our freedoms are what makes others hate us. We are all viewed as the same. Next time you see something stupid on TV, don't laugh, consider it an insult to yourself, thats what the rest of the world see's. Furthering that point, did you know that in Middle Eastern countries "Extra", the hollywood news program, is broadcast on national television. Now consider how they feel about us.

Once again the world news has shifted a mind. Read on the first page where Jeremy mentioned the wait...let me quote....
We will be occuping another land just like we are doing in Iraq. Were not there for the 300 tanks of nerve agent that were found a month ago.
You see, if the news had reported on that, well that might have saved some face for the president, but since bashing on the president raises ratings, we get to hear the half-truths and non-existant propaganda.

I agree that Bush hasn't turned out to be an overall great president, but, we have seen much worse. And compared to the other guy who could have beaten Bush at the last election, I am glad the verdict was for Dubya.

funny about that Kerry guy...if he was such a great opponent, why didn't more dems believe in him. Afterall, the most populated cities of the country are the majority Democrat.

Ronald Reagan was the most recent. He was a great president, lots of accomplishments, prosperity... granted, our national debt never grew higher, but you can't have it all I suppose.

Interestingly, Ronald Reagan also declared "war on terrorism", sending bombers into Libya on a pro-active mission...

...the difference? Ronald Reagan is an honest man. He wasn't partly motivated to send those bombers to defend "family honor", he didn't lie about our reason for sending them there... and he didn't change his story as to why we sent them there when the original reason was exposed as a sham.

He also sent them on a mission that was both well planned, and fairly well executed, with a distinct start, and a distinct finish. And that included having a goal.

Common sense stuff... you would think.
Aside from the War in Iraq, what other negative thing can you say about Bush?
Holy crap... surely you can't be serious. :surprised

And "...aside from the war"?
Like that's not enough?

How about the way the war was managed, even if you overlook the scandal surrounding the entire "reason" we invaded (and the lack of a goal for being there, which wouldn't be the case if there were a reason ]something[/i]", without worrying whether that "something" is appropriate or effective, then you should have a wonderful warm and fuzzy feeling looking around you all day long.

But I'd bet you wouldn't try to take your mind off a papercut by taking out your pocket knife and sawing through one of your other fingers, right? :p

I'd propose the ultimate challenge - something that really shouldn't be difficult, something that really proves the complete ineptitude of our current President... name something significant that Bush has accomplished?

It's shameful, considering that many years ago - not even that many years ago (but less and less frequently as time goes on, it seems :( ), we had some truly great men as Presidents...
How sad is it to even ASK the question "Well, I mean BESIDES the war, what else has he done BAD?"
You must realize how ludicrous that question even is, conceptually. :argh
