the bigger the sub, the more output you'll generally get , given the same brand/model line.

size itself won't have any other real effect aside from that. Generally but not always, the Fs of a larger sub is lower, but speed is relative to motor control more than size, so go with a good sub (example is the Fi Q series subs for SQ) with good motor control, and use the right box with proper power, and you should get good results.

size alone really means nothing aside from cone area.

^^x2^^

Ask away, all we are trying to say is that many of these question have answers that are easily found. If you truly want a GREAT system, it is important that you put forth the effort to understand all the variables. Not to be rude, but sense tells us that a pair of 12's should have more output than an identical set of 10's. So the question is, why do some people argue the other direction? hmmm.... Aplication, and install. What does that entail? An endless amount of variables.

We ARE HERE TO HELP YOU, and WANT TO HELP YOU, but for every answer we give you, it is likely there is another handful of variables (ie, vehicle, RF, power, install ect.... :p ) that would make all the difference in the world. That is why some many other forums flame back and forth so much, because people lack the sense to understand application and install.

yea I wasn't trying to be an ass by my comment. It's just the fact that a lot of your questions have already been answered. If you're referring to the myth that 10's have a quicker frequency response than 12's,15's etc..it is not true. Lower inductance woofers have a much quicker frequency response than higher inductance woofers so in some instances...an 18" woofer can be "quicker" than a 10"

Depends on the application.

Edit: I'd also have to agree with Dave. You need to do some of your own research. There are many, MANY websites and resources available from which to gain knowledge.

ive also heard that the difference between the 2 is that 10's hit a lot cleaner and 12's hit harder. is this true and is the difference noticable?

Myself personally,
If you've got the room for the 2 12"s, then go that route.

well the thing is...

by andrewn721 » Thu Oct 19, 2006 12:52 pm

the toss up is that i can get either 2 10"s JL w3 for the same price as 2 12"'s. ive heard mixed opinions and i just wanted to know what the forum pros think.

To quote something that has been said on here many different times, by many different people:
The size of the sub doesn't matter nearly as much as the enclosure.
A really great 12" in the wrong enclosure can sound like crap, while a really cheap 10" sub in the proper enclosure will sound great.

Now with that aside, If we are talking about 2 of the same subs 1-10" and 1-12" in the proper enclosures with the proper power (both the same), you will receive more from a 12" due to the larger cone area, but not enough to notice to the naked ear.

Side Note: 15" with more power :p
