All have their place, after all if one were completely superior then it would be the only thing left on the market. I just couldn't justify a centrifugal on a street setup, where you're hindered by the factory transmission and somewhat conservative axle ratios.

Im a quarter mile at a time so i dont really care about full power at 2000 rpm, but jonathan you are right 100 percent on your thread.but!! been around raceing all my life still go almost every friday.talking to all the people that race that use power adders turbos and prochargers are the favorate by far! unless your promods and they chose the old style like glass does (i love these too glass). i guess its whatever you prefer i choose procharger and some day twin turbos.....

Centrifugals are the worst thing you could ever put on a street car. On the track, sure, simply because the car never sees anything other than redline. If you're using a race prepped auto with a 5,000 stall converter on the street, more power to ya. Otherwise, look elsewhere. The benefit? Centris are cheap. That's the main reason they're so popular.

MM&FF did a great test on this, actually, and it'll give you a great visual on their characteristics.

Same test, just posted both to prove that it wasn't just marketing on either's behalf. Vortech, of course, doesn't have it on their site. If there were a loser in that test, theirs would definately be it, I'm sure they didn't want to show that one off. But all centris perform the same regardless, procharger included, it gives a good visual on all their characteristics regardless of what type of motor it's on.

Twin screws are my favs for street use. More efficient than roots, can run more boost on pump gas, make full power by around 2000 RPM (as does a roots blower). It feels just like you have a big block under the hood, torque on tap when you want it, full boost available pretty much everywhere. It amounts to tons of fun on the street. They also don't lose boost as you get to redline. Add easy maintenance and a kit that's put together well and you have a winner.

HP has a nice turbo kit as well, and it could be used with a carburetor if you wanted to.

I'd go 351 roller block over 302 given the choice, and why not? You're starting from scratch anyway. Much stronger block, more displacement potential, as well as fewer issues at that displacement. The 347 strokers still have some issues with oil control, while the stroker kits have been improved and are dependant upon your builder, I'd rather just trust a 351 that's been proven since the 1960s. You can stroke a 351 out to 427 if you want to as well, and the 351 with it's taller deck isn't as fickle when stroked and poked ;)

Of course, with all that power you'd better be thinking about getting a Tremec TKO and a built axle to take it. The stock T5 and axle doesn't like 500+ rwhp all that much haha

hey did anyone happen to catch the American Hot Rod episode where they were building a 68 Vette to be a show car, track car, and race car? Oh man it was nuts... The car had an engine with twin turbo's on it and it was pushing out 1500 hp... I think that number is a bit over exagerated but it had somethign like 680ftlbs of torque... now that would be a crazy set up in a mustang... But im pretty sure though that an engine like that is a very expensive piece.

for my motor I'd stick to a Weiand 8-71 roots blower, thanks all the same.
I prefer my power straight off the line, not when it's had time to yawn, stretch, and spool up, 3000RPM later.
This is especially true when you're using a lower RPM range powerband on a big V8, and not some highstrung, high revving small displacement engine.

Turbos will make more power than superchargers (eventually) sure, but they aren't perfect by any means. They also produce a lot more heat, and are more prone to failures. Turbos are also more dependant on atmospheric conditions for proucing good boost levels. A Turbo is more complec to install, and typically demands the use of an intercooler for decent results, whereas an IC is helpful but not a requirement for superchargers. Lastly, as I'd already noted, the powerband for a turbo charger is narrower than that of a supercharger, which can be good or bad, depending on your application.

Turbos is the way to go if you have the money, unless you drive top fuel or promods. procharger is the way to go look it up they have won more than any other supercharger

by jasonc1976 » Wed Oct 11, 2006 7:56 pm

Turbos are the best for total hp output done! love the sound of them but the price is much more. procharger is the best all around superchargers for the money on pump gas and less parasitic to boot than other superchargers. more bang for the buck on pump gas.

LOL, but who knows how to do that? ;)
