yeah man i know what a voice coil looks like i have reconed my friends two 15 inch re mts like 3 months a go.

The 8g wire would add a ton of stiffness (and weight) to the cone/spider since it's not going to move like the thin, flexible tinsel leads. In general, it's just a horrible idea. It isn't going to help you any either. Like Jeremy said, they design it a specific way for a reason.

You are aware of what a voice coil actually looks like right?

If not its about the size of mechanical pencil lead wraped around an aluminum former...

Anyhow I highly advise against altering the product as such. If the product is broken you need it repaired and done so properly. adding wire in like that is a huge problem. First off its going to slap against the cone/spider. Its going to break like RIGHTaway as its not mounted to or bridging the gap properly...

This is no a "recone" either... A recone involves all new soft parts- Cone, surround, spider, voice coil and so forth.

Why exactly would you want to do that? Those leads are made like they are for a reason. 8 guage would screw things up.

How hard and safe is it to cut the tinsel leads down to where the cone and spider meet and but 8g power wire in it? An how do you go about doing that?
feed back please...or can you up grade tinsel leads at dd?
