I have Sirius, an audiovox unit with a cradle in my Civic, my Pathfinder, and a boombox to plug it into in my workshop.

I love it. I used to work with a retailer that sold both XM and Sirius, and I simply compared music channels to make my decision.

I wasn't a huge Howard Stern fan, just a casual listener when he was on regular radio, but at that point his show was mostly a whine-fest about regular radio.
Now, I do end up listening to his channel on my morning commute, and the fact that he's not just on Sirius for the 'shock factor', ability to do obnoxious things - in fact, I don't think he hardly has so much as cursed since he's been on Sirius - that's caused me to have a whole lot more respect for him and his show. I think he's truly realized the ability to have freedoms to do things on his show that are unique and funny, and certainly edgy, but not obnoxious and offensive like Opie and Anthony (who recently returned to regular radio here).
So Howard didn't affect my original decision, but I would comment that he's really got two quality channels for when you don't feel like listening to music.

I believe even today, Sirius has better music channels, and unless there's a SQ component related to the tuner, the SQ of Sirius is better, it doesn't sound compressed like bad MP3's like my XM experiences have been. In originally comparing them, I had read something about Sirius's technology that was better, I am sure it boiled down to higher bandwidth and the ability to transmit more data. ;)

I'm a big fan, I don't even listen to regular radio anymore... and hardly listen to my CD's any more, for that matter! :p

to each their own

Ya I really havent gotten into the whole sat radio. I like to listen to mainly local stuff.

I wont pay for something thats free. COmmercials dnt bother me much.

Ive heard XM a few times. THe DJs are pretty gay. And its weird listening to the radio without the commercials. Nothing is local really, and I dont like that.

For instance if the local strip club is having a MILF contest I want to know about it ;)

i love my sirius. especially being a howard stern fan, making this weekend kinda big. after alot of hassle and whatnot, he finally got his tapes back, uncensored, from the past 20 years at k-rock (23,000 some odd hours). this weekend they're finally kicking off the tapes with an all request weekend. All the greatest moments from the past 20 years of stern.

and then theres football season starting now, with every game available. it should be pretty cool.

both providers have their strengths, but satellite radio in general is a great investment if you ask me. you don't reallize it until you have one.

i actually watch less tv after buying one

i love my xm radio. so much to choose from. the comedy unrated channel will make your long drives seem like seconds.

it is worth every penny. prepay the year and you get a nice price break and dont have to think of it again. i almost never turn on regular radio anymore.

a few years ago when i got it i research both systems and chose the xm due to the fact they had channels i would be mroe interested in. sirus does have some nice stuff but most of the ones they have that xm does not i did not care about.

I can't now, but I will once I move back to the states. I had a 2 month trial when I picked up the accord, and was pretty happy.
