yeah, it helps a ton with road noise. that was my main reason for putting all that in, b/c it's a 20 yr old 4runner with 33" tires. it made a huge difference.

Well the padding is a different sound deading effect.

The stick on stuff we use (Dynamat and clones) are this way for a reason. They bond to the metal to make it denser and to absorb the vibratory energy.

Carpet padding just "sits" wherever you put it. Its not bonded to the material and it will not take out as much vibratory energy as the stick on stuff. It will however be good at silencing road noise.
right, i wonder if they put carpet pad in limos and upper end cars that are made for transportation ?

i think if you layered the carpet it would... with some foamish/gellish type gunk in between each layer..

J.W. wrote:You can see the carpet padding installed. I put eDead all over the inside of the truck, except the ceiling, and i put two layers up front and in the doors. I then used 3M spray adhesive to put the carpet padding on the sides, floor, and inner firewall.
man now im jealous to see someone else with the carpet padding in their car, i work at a carpet warehouse so i literally work with it everyday and i asked if it would work for sound damping and got shot down :P

pretty sure it should work well. carpet pad is extremely dense. even 7lb is dense let alone 8lb. might end up doing it if i ever rip my carpet out of my car.

be careful though, its verrrrry flammable. i see you have a fire ext. though :)
