I'm on vacation right now looking at houses for a move out of state myself.
I know what ya mean about starting over.

I saw a car audio shop today.
"Mexio and USA car Audio!"
I looked for the lowriders.

that's ok. I have a ten thousand dollar system I put in my car that cost me about fifty grand to build myself.
Nothing wrong with doing it yourself. I just suggest having help till you're comfortable with the wowrk.. and by help I mean in person, right there, with an experienced installer or hobbyist.

Yeah I guess that will work, but it will only be in stereo, not surround or 5.1, and it won't sound that good.

You will need something like the JL clean sweep to convert the amplified siginal from your factory radio to a signal the sub amp can use.

Then you will need an RCA converter to change the aftermarket dvd player audio to a signal the factory radio can use. You might be able to use an RCA output on the dvd player, but the voltage might be to high for the input stage on the factory deck. if it is and you fry the input stage your screwed.

I will admit what your doing is going to be the cheapest way, BUT the end results will be pretty crappy. Especially in the audio department.

I hope that video adapter is dead on, one mistake with a wire and your out 2 + grand.

the 06 tsx comes with a aux in located in the center armrest like shown in the picture so i was gonna use that....

by JeremyC » Fri Jul 14, 2006 3:40 pm

Yeah I wouldn't do that. The honda nav unit is 2 grand, so I am sure the acura one is even more. If you tie that in you will void the waranty on the nav unit, and could very easaly fry it. IMO its not worth the risk. There are plenty of other options for a screen, that will yeild better results.

I looked over your pic again and I don't see where the dvd audio is going to tie into the factory. The acura nav unit doesn't have an aux in, so your going to have to use the audio in the sony dvd player. If you do that you will have to run all new wires, and remove the factory amp from the system.

Unfortanatly your car is like mine. Its pretty much all or nothing.

its what is converting the navigation screen to play dvds from the dvd player. the video from the sony HU dvdplayer is run to the doms unit which is spliced in to the harness that goes to the nav in the pasenger footrest. in turn whatever is playing on my HU will be playing on the nav screen by way of a switch.

doms dvdtonav unit

What is that??

by slammedtsx06 » Fri Jul 14, 2006 9:59 am

the only thing i have to buy is doms dvdtonav unit and a 35 dollar power inverter....other than that (under 300) i dont have to spend money on anything else i have everything already.....i would like to do the work myself and thats why im on here and other forums --to ask questions- im not looking to win shows with my system or anything but i love working on cars and car audio and eager to learn....sorry if there is a slew of questions but most of them are answers i know that im looking for final truth to. i do appreciate the help though..

ive looked on the bcae site many times and learned alot from there as well as doing small things in myself and friends cars with some of them expierenced in the car audio industry... im a hands on learner not saying that learning on a 30 000 dollar car is smart but its mine and i pay for it so im figuring its a overall personal goal for myself....

there are some things you learn through education and experience both that are important to know and consider when laying out a system.
a few of those things include:
-subs are nice, but 70% of your audio is the front stage, so you want good front speakers, not stock crappy ones.
-DVD is a 6 channel source. you need a center channel, good fronts, rears, and subs if you want decent movie playback.
-a loud, clear front stage requires amplification.. not just head unit power which is about 12 watts per speaker.
-you don't want to spend three grand on a DVD Navi system, amp, and subs, and have piss poor speakers and no amp for everything that isn't bass. It's not a balanced system and the subs will drown out everything else.. vocals, guitars, symbols, all of it.
-speaker placement and positioning is even more vital than picking the right speakers for the job.

that's just a brief peek into the sort of things you have to consider if you don't want to be severely disappointed in the end results of spending thousands, or even hundreds on an audio system.
