You think the other companies even read this stuff? I can't believe how kids will be persuaded so easily.

Alpine's amps aren't all that great either, I'd definately take an MTX amp over an Alpine. Especially their Class D sub amps.

Amplifiers are the one thing MTX does decently. They are about on par with Kicker, who also has pretty good entry to mid-level amplifier offerings at the same price range.
MTX's problems seem to be with speakers and marketing.

Alpine on the other hand seems to be sliding downhill with their head unit quality. I'm seeing a lot of complaints these days and a lot of product failures within the first few months of purchase with them and it's disturbing.
Makes me glad I stuck with the 7909 before they started this decline.

Yeah, I've heard Sony is thinking about going higher end. It'll be strange, that's for sure. If they make stuff like their older Mobile ES stuff, that'd be nice though. That stuff wasn't half bad.

You can be sure that MTX has lost alot of market share. Even with their entry into mainstream retaillers (CircuitCity) what you get for the money... makes even stupid "LOL" people shop elsewhere.

Look at their amplifiers, compare RMS power to price tag, theres a "LOL!" for you. I've heard it said that MTX amps are noise prone as well, and worse in sound quality than it's direct competitor, Rockford Fosgate (BestBuy). but I could'nt testify to that.

With Alpine's entry into the same mainstream markets, it seems that dollar for dollar, Alpine's amps and subwoofers make for a much better purchase.

At least for right now. As we've watched Alpine already stripping HU features, who knows how long till Alpine leaves "us for them" in terms of cheap price, few features, and low quality, as so many have done before.

In other words, imagine Sony improving, and Alpine declining, and trading spaces essentially. That would turn the forum communities on it's collective head. LOL!

Long throw midwoofers aren't a bad thing unless it has an extremely high inductance or so much moving mass that it's extremely inefficient. The main difference between a low end driver and a high end driver is the motor design. The real question is when you really have too much. You can have a highly linear motor that would have exceptionally low distortion throughout the midrange, or you can design a driver to have "acceptable" midrange distortion but a longer x-max to wow potential customers. XBL^2 is probably the best example of that because you have the most flexibility when referring to the relation between the coil and gaps. The CSS mid is an example that shows how linear that XBL^2 can be. An Extremis, XXX mid, or Brahma is an example of a driver that trades low level performance and linearity for a longer stroke.

well, this advertising approach is really an effect of today's mentality among the general buying public, so we have nobody but the masses of sheep to thank for this to be honest.
Look at how many audio threads are "this brand vs that brand" or "this product vs that product" and that's exactly what MTX is playing into for marketing. They had a smashing success with the 95xx vs W7 ad as well, and to this day I'm still correcting idiots who bought into that misinformation, so you se, if it sells, then nobody cares if it's moral, just, or fair.
It comes down to money.

As for the "LOL" comment, they're trying to attract younger buyers through the use of what they consider current, hip lingo. internet/text message speak.
It's a new plague to replace ebonics.

I like the comment on the "plastic LOL" for the basket. Plastic is a very generalized term. How to they know its not glass filled nylon or some other composite? They dont, just full of BS...

Larger VC Diameter = more mass for the speaker to move making it harder to control.

"220C Aluminum VC Wire" Hot damn thats very specific, so specific its like me comparing my gas powered car to a hydrogen, electric and diesel and proclaiming mine is better because its faster or lighter :rolleyes

More throw = less control, bottom line. Thats why high XMAX mids havent taken off...

I must agree that not only is this advertising simply unproffesional and (though I'm no lawyer) could possibly leave them open for a lawsuit which is a very bad business decision. I think it's sad that they are trying to aim for a market that's way out of their league. I have heard those components and they have a nice sound and look nice and would be great for your average joe who won't buy anything like focal just because he's never heard of them. I run two MTX subs (soon to be switched out) and have been very happy with them they are good strong subs so I think they would have been better to compare themselves to more mainstream companies and offer facts that could be better backed up in court if need be. as always I could be wrong but that's how I see the situation.

Because then they couldn't show how their BEST LINE is as good as Focal's WORST LINE.
