Ok...now i know a lot of people on this site dont agree with audiobahn, but the amp from my old system is an audiobahn 3201q that is 300x2 at 4 ohms...good enuf to push 2 tempest in a sealed box temporarily?

by ridr4lif » Sat Dec 04, 2004 8:48 pm

Yea...ive had sealed boxes for all my past systems, and i like how stuff sounds sealed. I would love to get more SPL out of a vented box, but like the SQ of a sealed box. I dont plan on competing ne time soon...so sealed is fine for me

the shiva and tempest come as dual 8 ohm nominal drivers... parallel each woofer's coils together, and into the amp results in a 2 ohm nominal load...

personally... I'm a big fan of those drivers vented.. but they do perform nicely sealed.. since you're strapped for cash, I can't justify the XXX...

I know, I meant it would kill your alternator... I wouldnt surpass around 600 watts (for the pair) unless you're planning upgrading your electrical system. :)

the 600.1 would be perfect for the Tempest, each would get 300rms. which would be pretty loud and sound awesome. id go for it, i have one, and im only goin to have 150rms, im having troubles with the amp right now so i cant tell you how it sounds at the moment, but i will asap. :P

1500 watts would probably kill it... I wouldnt recommend going over 600 watts, or some where around there. I'd find a JBL BP 600.1, its a good cheap amp... :thumb:

Im kinda strapped for $$ since im in college and whatnot. Lets just say, if i were to buy 2 tempests, would a fosgate 1501bd amp (1500x1 at 2 ohms) be too much for them in a sealed box? I can get the amp from a buddy of mine for $300. Or would that amp be to much for my electrical system to handle?

A pair of shivas or tempests would take alot less power than a single 15" XXX... If you stuck with the shivas or tempests you could possibly use your stock charging system, with the XXX it would be very doubtful. If you have the extra money to upgrade your electrical and what not go with the 15" RE, if not go with the shivas or tempest! :s_thumbup
