well im a budget builder and i would find a v-8 explorer and pull the heads. they are a gt-40p head which is the same as the gt-40 heads with the exception of plug placement. the explorer heads actually have better plug placement in relation to the valves, it is more central to the valve placement. the only drawback is that you cant use headers that are for the mustang because the plugs will hit so your either making your own or using the shortys for an explorer.

< look i have 2 green boxes now! :sm29:

I'd take AFR or Edelbrock heads over Trick Flows, personally.

all in what you're after I guess. a stroker implies low end torque as a goal, since you have the longer stroke which will lower your top RPM range of the motor.. that's why I was suggesting the SC over turbos.. the turbos work better when you can wind up a good small block to high RPMs.. which you won't do with a long stroke.

If any of you watched Pinks! with the two 1500+HP big blocks that raced each other on 10" drag radials, then you saw the problem with a lot of torque and not enough tire.. the one car almost got put into the wall on it's first launch, and it didn't happen till he was well past 60', when he shifted. Anyway, just a matter of having just what you need to make it all work.. not too much and not too little.
It's tricky to get the right balance, and keep it consistant.
It's an art form, really.

i might just make an all motor 347 still having F.I. but with some good heads like the twisted wedge and a perfect cam and good lower end you can do pretty decent. and when you get an intake like this http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ ... rmenbr=361 .

I agree you don't build one for gas mileage, I've hit high 10s with all motor, but I sure as hell would've traded 1 second E.T for a 20mpg jump. You do lose a lot of the appeal since you don't have a lopey cam, high stall converter, really steep gearing, 4 barrels moaning, but for many it's a worthy compromise.

Should've pointed out that I was being relative. A turbo'd 302 likely isn't going to have huge levels of torque off the line, it's enough, but not near what a built big block would. In the case of that car, you really don't need 10" wide slicks to get a good launch.

you dont build a car like that for gas mileage. and mid 11's is real attainable on motor alone with a v-8. nitto makes some real good 10" drag radials and you can have all the power you want but if you cant put it to the ground you can still enter burnout contests..... how many times have you seen a car with a higher top speed win a drag race? it takes money to build any motor but when your done and you wax ass with nothing but motor against a guy with a power adder it sure does feel good. espescially those ricers with their NOS.....i guess i shouldnt talk, im about to add a honda to the stable....

contact area means a lot with enough power.
look at the average differences in ET times between cars on drag slick ripple wall tires, and cars on street radials, then look at the difference in contact area.

No way I'd want my car on less than 10" of rubber in the back with a lot of low end torque.. otherwise you spend more time feathering the gas to stay planted than you do accelerating.

anyway you can do pretty much all you need without a power added with the right motor. I've seen a 440 from Indy putting out well over 1000HP, and a friend of mine has a 454 el camino with the stock motor, new heads, and a cam etc.. (basically updated the top half of the motor) and he's sitting at 570HP.

That's more than enough for any street car really.

Some good sticky drag radials would be plenty for it. Width isn't as important, more for showing off. I like the stealthier feel of that car, though.

ya thats very impressive. get some nice meats on the back he could do alot better.
