that's an internal protection circuit, and it sounds like the radio was sitting against a heater duct or something in the car, or it just wasn't cooling well enough. Another possibility is a short somewhere causing the amp to overheat internally even if its not in use.

amp guard

Allright heres the deal. I have a Clarion dxz545mp deck. It was installed in a friends car so we could listen to mp3's. He doesnt have air conditioning in his car right now, and after you start the car and let it run for a minute, across the display screen it flashes "amp guard" across the screen. When this happins, you cant turn the volume up or down, switch tracks, access the menu's or anything. The cd will still play, and you can change to the radio, but you cant switch stations either. The only way it goes off is to turn off the car and turn it back on, but a few minutes later it is back on again. When i got to my house, we pulled it out and the thing was scorching hot. I wondered if it got to hot in there, and nothing was there to cool it off so it shut off because the internal amp was overheating. The amp had nothing connected to it though, so i don't know what the hell is up. Any Sugestions? Ideas? thanks in advance for the help!
