I have the same exact door (Sunfire 1998). I took out the grill and cut a hole for 6.5 mid and mounted it in the door with a 6.5" mdf ring. I've experimented with tweeter location using velcro - they sound good in several locations but seem brighter when mounted above my torso so I keep them lower. I had to cut out some thin sheet metal behind the panel with a jigsaw which wasn't as bad as I thought - almost came out like butter. I also used sound deadener in the door panel. The door panel was lined pretty well with wool material and styrofoam from GM which was nice. I have ADS comps, front and back.

Planet Audio big bane 6.5 components.

I changed my mind i fixed the pattern I have to be smaller, just enough to fit the woofer and tweeter. Ill take a pic and upload eventually. I need to get a piece of MDF and plywood and my hardener.

Im not gonna be doing the work directly on the door panel so not worried about that.

Gotta get my fleece too, ill get bondo once I have most of my stuff done.

Hardest part for me will be cutting the wood right and such cause I suck at building stuff hehe.

The shape is actually gonna be quite similar to the cover in that picture that houses the tweeter only bigger

If anyone feels like coaching me or helping me out id appreciate it since its my first time working with fiberglass haha.

Here is a pic of what I plan on doing. Im not sure how ill get the curve right, i guess ill worry about that after i have the base made and such.

I have to get hardener, I have mats and resin, also gotta get my wood.

What kind of wood should I use for the back since im not making a fiberglass back/base.

Just 1/8th plywood or something thicket?

I think ill probably put fabric over it instead of painting it to make things easier.
