thanks jeremy. great tip about the foil! I have a lot of reading to do on fiberglassforums.com before i attempt this install next weekend (jun 19).

I pulled the trigger, and just bought an IDQ 10 from woofersetc.com. I called Image Dynamics and talked to Sean, pointed him to this thread, and he recommended option 1 - a single IDQ in 0.75 ft^3 enclosure with 1/4 lb of polyfill. He said the exact same thing as you did about the cone area vs better low end. Between ya'll two, that's all i needed to make up my mind :)

He could have gotten himself in some trouble. Put foil on top of the tape, and then use torn up pieces of strand mat.

Then resin the whole thing.

He got lucky the resin didn't soak through the tape, and stick the whole thing to his floor.

Something else you can do, if you have a big enough gap between the floor and the seat, is actually raise the trim ring for the sub up a little and fiberglass to it. That would add to your overall air space if needed.

I would go with the single 10. Yes you would have a little more cone area with the two eights, but the 10 is going to naturally roll off later, and will give you a little better low end extension.

Going with two eights, and putting them in a box thats a hair to small kind of worries me. The 8s have a higher roll off anyways. Now your cutting their enclosure, causing them to roll off even sooner.

Ok, I need some opinions on which direction to go for my sub install. The amp that i will be using is an old Orion XTREME 400.4 (50w x 4 / 200w x 2 bridged). I've decided to utilize the storage compartment beneath the rear seat of my truck. One option involves cutting some non-structural metal, which i don't mind doing. It will allow for a single 10, and i think the enclosure shape will be better. The second option doesn't require any cutting, but the enclosure size will be a bit small, and i think the shape of the enclosure will not be very optimal.

Here are the two options that i am weighing...

What do ya'll think? Option 1 or 2? Which option will sound better in your opinion? louder?

EDIT: I just found another install similar to option 1, where the dude fit TWO 10's! I don't think I will do two 10's, just so i can keep the budget down and invest in one good 10, such as the IDQ10, but at least i know that i can make the enclosure a bit bigger than 0.7 ft^3, which an IDQ10 will probably like.
