Ive never had good luck with any of there stuff ive had a few customers come in to have there cadence stuff replaced after it took a dump. That is just my experience.

Space is not really a problem, at least for me. My wife always complains about the box taking up to much room, but I just turn it up and I don't hear her anymore.

I like the single sub idea because someday when I get a bigger amp I can just add a second sub instead of replacing it.

Is cadence really that bad? The company as a whole or just that sub? I have two cadence 10" subs that are still new in the box. I turned down an offer for them a while back. Was that a mistake?

A lot has to with the car and available space as well...

Just kidding, that sub would work good...

A 15" Type R in the right box would probably throw down OK as well.

EDIT: I really like my 10" DX, I run 340 watts to it, it's rated at 250 watts. It pretty loud for a single 10", but more importantly it sounds good doing it.
No but its a hell of a lot better than cadence

500 WRMS total @ 2 Ohms.

If you got it, go with it.

The DX 12 is my next purchase.
If he only has 1 500rms amp 1 sub will most likely be louder on that power with the correct box.
