SLI is good when you want faster gfx, and you already have the fastest cards on the market, which I did at the time I built that box. Or, SLI works well also, when you just want to add performance when the card prices drop, instead of blowing another $550 on the bleeding edge card that just came out.
Yeah the X is locked on the Q6600, but the bus isn't. Besides, you get more performance from increasing the bus speed, than from increasing the multiplier, anyway.
You can gain performance with lower clock speed and faster memory timings, too.
PS Windows 7 is really sweet. Vista without the overhead.
