I used to go with twist and heatshrink all the time, then graduated to solder and heatshrink, then moved to crimp caps.

I love this kink of work.

you can get a little butane pen torch at home depot for like $10.

It can be used as 1. Torch (solders 8-12 awg nicely) 2. a solder gun (solder smaller wires) 3. a heat gun for heat shrink

I like twist and heatshrink. But I went twist and tape with this last head unit. The wires are solid and ain't going nowhere.

I crimp cap..... Butt end only when needed to... Used to solder but have burned the crap out of my hands so many times... I wish I had a head shrink Gun thing. Or a mini Butane torch... I have the big guy for soldering copper pipes but Im sure thats a bit much...

I solder, except the remote wire, since it doesn't go through the harness. I use some sort of disconnect for that. Like an Anderson power pole.

It doesn't take very long, all 4 wires took me about 10 minutes...

tin the wires, solder them, then heat-shrink tubing over the connections using a wiring harness for plug-n-play action goodness.

...sans the harness in my car, as it was pre-plug era.

lol i just twist and tape em up, but i would like to get 'into' caps and possibly soldering. just a little scared of geting ahead of myself :P
