yeap, figured it was just going to be sitting in the garage for a few months so didnt really need it, only had liablity anyways...

After parting out the car, I only lost 2-300 dollars on it...

what about the mustang?Did your ins. cover it?

I can't see them sueing for the amount they paid out. But I'm no expert.

Did your landlord even bring over a case of beer after the repairs? It's cool that he offered you a job though. Nothing wrong with more money in the pocket.

by MobileAudio219 » Sat May 24, 2008 1:10 pm

yeah, it didnt turn out that bad... so far!

the insurance company could still sue me, but hopefully that wont be a problem.

Well yeah it does kinda suck that he profited from it, but on the up side it didn't cost you an arm and a leg for a mistake that could've easily come back to haunt you... plus you've been given the opportunity to make what you had spent on the garage back by doing a couple side jobs here and there for him.
So in all, I guess we rate this one as decent ending... can't really say "Happy" since you still lost a nice Stang :(

Forgot to mention, there going on vacation to Canda in the next week or two... :sad017:

Yeah, it sucks that I had to do it, but theres one thing I hate more than working.... MOVING!

Well thats cool. Glad it all panned out. Kind of shitty that you had to do all that work and he still stuck $3K into his pocket...

Well it's all fixed now. The fire damage wasnt as bad as we thought, heres what it took to repair it...

WHAT LANDLORD BOUGHT:
(8) 8ft 2x4's.
(2) gallons of Kills paint.
(2) gallons of cheap wal-mart paint.
(1) Rolled Roofing.
(1) Single axle dump truck of gravel (mostly for the drive way)

WHAT I BOUGHT:
(2) sheets of 1/2" plywood
(3) sheets of 2X8 corrugated steel siding
Various nails, screws, ect...

We replaced a few studs (4-5), redid the roof on the lean too part (not from fire damage), replaced 3 sheets of the steel siding, then repainted the inside with kills paint, the outside with cheap wal-mart paint, then shoveled fresh gravel in it and driveway...

End Result: Garage turned out alot nice then it was, we added some some bracing resulting in a much stronger structure, though it still leans because the foundation settled over the years...

The landlord recieved 4,300 dollars from the insurance company, though he had a 1,000 deductiable, so technically he got 3,300. He spent probably 300-400 on repairs. I did most of the work myself, and painted the house and did some landscaping to repay him for the deductiable....

The landlord profited roughly 3,000, plus got the house painted and a nicer garage in the end.

The landlord was impressed with my work and this evening offered me a job doing maintenace on his rental properties (he owns 14 or 15 rental houses.) He said he only pays 10 bucks an hour, but might do it for a little extra income...

I'll post some pictures of before and after damage later.
