^^^ My appologies i definitely was thinking of the wrong decade on that chevy comment... But i do believe that I said that GM had to buy out Delphi because they are their main supplier of parts and with them going into bankruptcy would have put GM in big big trouble.

Actaully that is a really bad comparison, as GM was hurting worse through the mid to late 90s than today, a better comparison would be the 80s.
And you do realize that GM had to buy out Delphi to save themselves because of what Delphi was doing to themselves, and not the other way around.
As for Ford I still think it's stupid that they wanna sell off the companies they own that actually have potential to make money... the biggest issues with Jaguar is that they're not keeping up with their competitors within the same market... So I wouldn't be suprised if after the sale of Jaguar if whatever company that buys them takes some risks and does some major overhauling to keep up that we see them in the green in no time.

i can agree to a point but the fords still arnt where they need to be. read any motor trend or car and driver. its unfortunate.

Ford's cars have improved a lot in quality, but the desirability factor as far as exterior styling and such hasn't been the greatest compared to what others are putting out. I think that's their main hangup right now. They haven't really put out any cars other than the mustang or the Ford GT that will pull you in a showroom.

American cars aren't really suffering from quality or reliability problems, but rather a perception problem. The only way you're going to get past that is creating cars that are that much more desirable than others on the market. If Ford, GM, and Chrysler had done this in the late 80s or early 90s, they would've had an easier turnaround because Camrys and Accords and such were vanilla, boring. Gonna be harder to do nowadays.

actually Jeep was the only US manufacturer to be in the black (8%) so they're doing just fine.
I have had a 94 ZJ, and an 01 WJ, and both are outstanding vehicles.

And to be honest it is kinda sad that even in our own country our own car companies are coming under american-built foreign car companies.

If chrysler wouldn't have butchered the Jeep so bad, they might have done ok with it. No self respecting jeep person will own anything after about 1990. They have to rebuild an entirely new customer base with their new street jeeps. Terrible. :(
