isobuster is really good at getting data off cds windows wont read might have to install an aspi driver for it to work best

transmission might be going out on the burner or the laser could be getting weak it can be fixed as there are little potentiometers inside you can turn up the voltage to it in slight incriments till it works then there the laser diode those can go bad sometimes the alignment of the laser can be off too and it wont be pointing where it should. allot of times though its a software problem or ide cable. as for getting scratches out brasso seems to do the trick

Its not the lenses in my CD/DVD drives. Its my CDs. After year of use and abuse it just needs to be done.

I tried a SkipDR about 5 years ago. it ruined a CD. I followed the directions... Heck I run machinery all day long, Im not going to be defeated by a hand powered device...lol

I havent sent them out yet Im waiting on the return of a CD.

that above ^ works great. my PS2 had that problem, used one of those disc cleaners and it read discs great after that.

anyway, to the OP, i'd just download the CDs. This will get the thread locked, but its true.. don't waste money re buying them.

you might want to try to reinstall the drivers you dont need to reinstall windows.... check ide cable aka ribbon cable the one that connects to your mother board,hard drive and cd/dvd drive....and if none of these solutions work then its time to get a new drive

You might have to take it apart. Just get it where you can see the lens and use a soft cloth and gently rub. CD cleaning cd's might work too.

how do i clean it? do i literally take it apart and wipe the thingy down?

I would first clean it, then try a different burning program.

If neither work, either reformat/reinstall windows or get a new drive.

this might be on the same topic. . . anyone know why my computer cant burn cds? it gets an error 9 out of 10 times i try burning, i was thinking the cd rom drive has to be cleaned... anyone know anything about this?

The hand crank things DO WORK! They just will not fix big scratches. I do know that you can go to almost ANY video game store and they have big fancy disc repair machines there. I would check those out.
